We’ve all got Caitlin Clark’s game-winner on the brain after the likely National Player of the Year hit the likely shot of the year in likely the game of the year on Sunday in a huge win over No. 2 Indiana.
Now Clark has the women’s basketball world’s attention for another reason as the junior spoke about her openness to playing five years of hoops at Iowa, an opportunity granted to her and every other student-athlete on a roster in 2020.
Caitlin Clark (@CaitlinClark22) has at least one more year with @IowaWBB, but she joined us today and said that she wouldn't rule out staying for an additional year after that. #Hawkeyes

Clark is considered a lock to be selected in the lottery of the 2024 WNBA Draft, when she will first be eligible, even going as high as No. 1 in mocks. That’s of course if she declares for it.
The question for her comes two-fold: compete in college at a probably more lucrative salary when factoring in NIL deals or complete the mission and go pro. Picks No. 1-4 in the 2024 WNBA Draft will earn $76,535 in their first year on the court. In Clark’s interview with Dan Patrick, she cites endorsements as a reason she’s not super worried about the prospect of leaving NIL money on the table should she choose to declare.
The point guard is in the elite of the elite mix, likely able to leverage her engaging style of play on top of national sports celebrity (she’s already netted 180,000 Instagram followers) into financial opportunities off the court. But a bevy of factors including which market she’s selected to play in are variables beyond her control.
🎉 Congrats to the #B1GWBBall Player of the Year - @IowaWBB's Caitlin Clark! 👏

There’s also the hoops aspect — one more year at Iowa would allow the triple-double machine to rack up seemingly unreachable records and the chance to compete for another title.
We’re a little early to be discussing Clark’s tenure as she still has at least another year on the books, but we’ll hear a lot of chatter soon.
South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston will make the same choice this spring despite being the unanimous No. 1 choice in April’s draft. The Indiana Fever, a smaller-market team that hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2016, holds the top pick.
Bet on the Iowa Hawkeyes to win the National Championship
Clark’s team has the seventh-highest odds to win the title according to FanDuel. At +4000, a $10 bet on the Hawkeyes could win $400.
